Responsible investing and investment merit

How integrating sustainability into investment decision-making is a crucial part of building resilient client portfolios 🌍

Accreditation: FPI CPD Points Approved
About the Event
As a South African Independent Financial Advisor (IFA), you occupy a critical position in the investment ecosystem. While interest in ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) factors is growing rapidly, many advisors feel under-equipped to address client questions that sit at the intersection of values and financial returns.

Does integrating sustainability mean sacrificing performance? How do you translate complex global trends into actionable advice for a local retail portfolio?
Join Fossil Free South Africa (FFSA) for this practical, education-first webinar. We skip the jargon and focus on the investment merit—equipping you with the evidence, frameworks, and language you need to lead confident, high-value conversations with your clients.

Carbon Captured? Report launch

📢 For the first time, South Africa has an overview of fossil fuel industry partnerships across higher education. Inspired by mounting and worrying international evidence about the consequences of such partnerships without proactive, clear guardrails, our director David Le Page and campaigner Steph Cookson have published a report with recommendations for our universities. This webinar will share the findings and the report, and we hope to see you - students, academics, university leadership and alumni - there!

Climate Leadership for a Just Transition

Climate Leadership for a Just Transition

Scan the QR code in the poster to join online.

Universities should be pillars of Climate leadership. Fossil Free SA emerged from the 9 year campaign with over 5000 signatures from staff and students culminating in UCT's 2022 commitment to fossil fuel divestment (a prudent financial strategy and condition of moral authority on the climate emergency). What has happened since this commitment? What principles can UCT embrace to lead the way for climate action and a just energy transition in Africa? And, how can staff be part of this?

Universities are the institutions that lead most of the research outlining the scale and severity of the climate crisis, and its probable impacts on Africa. Many South African universities have missions and visions for being centres of social justice and should be communicating the full risks of climate change to society at large, offering social leadership rather than giving the wrong tacit signals to the rest of society. FFSA's Climate Leadership Platform offers a framework for UCT to do this.

Hey UCT, where are you putting our money?
Apr

Hey UCT, where are you putting our money?

UCT promised to stop investing in fossil fuels in 2022. For 3 years, they didn't even update the website. Then, in 2025, they quietly pushed their net zero commitment back by 10 years to 2040. The climate crisis doesn't have that kind of time.

But the real problem is about more than the climate crisis. The real problem is that there is no public list of UCT's investments. That means we don't know where our money is going. And they won't tell us. From SASOL to Glencore to Israel, UCT money could be doing real damage - and we have no way of knowing.

Meanwhile, we pay some of the highest fees in the country and still watch our classmates starve, get financially excluded, and sit in buildings that fall apart. We deserve answers. We deserve transparency.
