Fossil Ad Ban
The Fossil Ad Ban Cape Town is a campaign that draws inspiration from similar campaigns that have been initiated in the Netherlands and Australia, and from France, which has already instituted a national ban on certain forms of fossil fuel advertising.
For a more detailed history of this campaign going back to 2013, you can view all our campaign timelines here.

Why should we ban fossil fuel advertising?
Fossil fuels are the leading cause of the climate crisis and carry heavy social costs. Advertising them only serves to hide their harmful impact and delays the shift to sustainable alternatives.
Banning fossil fuel ads will expose their harm, weaken the industry's influence, and support a fair transition to a cleaner future.
