Meet our interns at a mall near you
Look out for the seven bright, energetic young interns who have become the face of our to our #InvestFossilFree campaign at malls, markets and other public venues.
Their purpose is to gain more sign-ups for and raise awareness of our #InvestFossilFree campaign. Chosen for their confidence, climate and investment knowledge, and activist experience, some are graduates in fields related to sustainability while others are completing post-graduate studies.
“They’re all such bright, confident, passionate people that they are a great asset to IFF,” said our divestment campaigner Sandrine Mpazayabo.

The interns were trained in August and began their campaigning in September. Two are based in Stellenbosch and the others in Cape Town. They have worked at venues including the Company Gardens, the Oranjezicht City Farm Market and Victoria and Alfred Waterfront.
“I’m thrilled to be part of the FFSA because the divestment movement is such a powerful approach to driving systemic change,” said Buhle James (22). “It’s inspiring to know that… we are pushing institutions to invest in cleaner, more sustainable energy sources.”
“I’m beyond excited to see how our small collective efforts as part of the invest fossil free campaign can and will lead to lasting changes to create a more sustainable future,” said Megan Smeda (19).
“Before I started studying economics and working on social justice campaigns, I'd never been exposed to the possibilities of using finance for social good. Over the past year or so, my eyes have been opened to the possibilities of a greener and more socially just economy,” said Milan Burnett (19).
“The campaign will evolve over time,” said Sandrine. “We’re very pleased that our interns are reaching large numbers of people, as we boost support for our #InvestFossilFree campaign.”
